Horia Augustin Dumitra — filmmaker.
To me, art and philosophy are inseparable, because one of the tasks of an artist is to spot and isolate those moral and existential dilemmas that are yet unsolved or seem unsolvable, spark novel ways to tackle them, and challenge the viewer or reader to ponder and figure out where they stand and why.

Working with a RED Raven camera.

I've been making films since 2005. I studied Film Directing and Screenwriting in Bucharest, Romania, receiving my Honours Bachelor's in Film Directing. I then studied Cinematography and Film Production in Dublin, Ireland, adding hands-on filming and lighting expertise to my repertoire.

I believe in Film as high art. Film can mediate our understanding of the transcendent, film can hint at the numinous.
I'm an avid Ingmar Bergman fan, having studied his oeuvre closely, as well as those of Antonioni, Bresson, Tarkovsky, Haneke, von Trier, Kiarostami, Béla Tarr, Fassbinder, Herzog etc. — my filmmaking heroes.

I'm a fervent believer in the idea of 'auteur', and I'm always focusing on substance. I believe an artist aims to create something transcendentally meaningful, that stands outside of era and province, and which posterity would declare as Art — but then again, why should one do anything for posterity since it's done squat for us?

Cringe alert: I'm a Gnostic non-dual existentialist who falls asleep to the Upanishads nightly and believes in 'agape' Love.
